Rocksteady Studios co-founders Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker have announced that they are leaving the studio.
The news comes as little surprise, both because Hill was the director of the studio’s upcoming game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and because both were the studio’s original founders and the masterminds behind its popular Batman Arkham series. Nonetheless, it seems the two are amicably leaving Rocksteady at the end of the year, with confidence in the team that they are leaving behind to take on Suicide Squad in the last row.
here it is Statement In whole:
I have some important news to share with you about Rocksteady Studios. Co-founders and studio heads Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker have decided to leave the studio. We are very proud to work with Jamie and Sefton, who have led their talented teams to create some of the best games in the world. From the critically acclaimed hit Batman Arkham franchise to his evolutionary thinking with Suicide Squad, he has been a great team leader. Visiting Rocksteady Studios has always been a highlight for me personally – the attention to detail, the energy of the people and what it’s like to be in a high-performing studio. They are committed to the highest quality and excellence in all aspects of sports development while ensuring an excellent culture of caring for their employees. With Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League almost over, the two have decided to leave Rocksteady at the end of 2022 and begin a new adventure in gaming. We have the utmost respect and gratitude for Jamie and Sefton and wish them the very best in their new endeavor, and like many fans, we look forward to what they do next.
Rocksteady is very well positioned to oversee the team with experienced studio leadership. We are extremely pleased to announce that longtime Rocksteady Production Director and original founding member of the studio, Nathan Burlow, will step into the role of Studio Director and Darius Sadeghian will reign as Studio Product Director. Nathan and Darius are extremely talented executives and are passionate about continuing to develop high-quality games for Rocksteady for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and all future games.
It’s best to hear directly from Jamie and Sefton, as well as from Nathan and Darius, so they’ve shared their thoughts below:
“Our decision to leave Rocksteady was emotional to say the least! From the day we founded the company in 2004 to the present day, Rocksteady has been our life and soul. It has given us the opportunity to do that. What we love: Create great games with exceptionally talented people. We’re very proud to team up here for the games we put together, from our first game Urban Chaos to the much-loved Arkham series and now the epic Suicide Squad has made.
But there’s something extra special about Rocksteady that goes beyond the games we make, and everyone who works here feels it. It’s the incredible moments we’ve shared over the years, the friendships, and the care this team has for each other that have made this unforgettable journey so special. We believe that people wear their Rocksteady T-shirts with pride because of how we treat each other and how it feels to be here. We want to thank the team for their hard work and everything they bring to make it such a great place.
The energy and talent of this team has brought us some of our proudest moments: the chance to work with Warner Bros. and DC on Batman, the amazing Arkham games we could have imagined, the chance to work with some of our childhoods. We love giving back to the industry by helping protagonists, budding game makers, and finally, here’s to creating a culture where people can just be themselves and make great games together.
One of the very special ingredients in all of this is Rocksteady fans. Their enthusiasm and support for what we do is the fuel that drives us to be our best. They are the expanding Rocksteady team and we thank them very much for activating us over the past 18 years! Now in the safe hands of Suicide Squad, and the team here is stronger than ever, it is time to hand over the reins, and for us to embark on a new adventure in sports together.
Nathan and Darius have proven their passion and skills at Rocksteady over the years. They are veterans of our industry and we know that their commitment to Rocksteady and their talent and energy will take the team to even greater heights. We couldn’t be happier that he is leading the future here and wish him all the best.”
