Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced that its Yakuza-adjacent Judgment series will be making its way to Steam for the first time. The best news: They’re on Steam today.
Judgment and Lost Judgment arrives on Steam on September 14. This marks each game’s first appearance on PC (though Judgment is available to stream on PC). stadium,
This news is especially important because RGG Studios originally planned to release Lost Judgment on PC when it launched last year. However, that version was dropped when the talent agency representing actor Takuya Kimura, who portrays protagonist Takayuki Yagami, implemented strict policies about allowing Kimura’s likeness on the PC. The inability of both parties to agree jeopardizes Judgment’s future as a franchise, as RGG Studios pushes for more of its titles to come to Steam; For example, every mainline Jacobs game is available on the storefront. Those issues appear to have been resolved, which bodes well for the potential of the third game.
Judgment is a game noir action thriller that follows a similar open-world design template to the Yakuza series. Although the plots largely unfold in Kamurocho, the series introduces a new cast of characters and an emphasis on investigative gameplay. Players control Yagami, a disgraced lawyer and private detective who works to uncover a pair of conspiracy theories. In Yakuza fashion, he helps his colorful clients and random citizens solve more mild-mannered — or comically absurd — problems.
