[Update] PlayStation 5 Price Increased In Multiple Non-US Markets, Microsoft Responds

Following news from Sony Interactive Entertainment earlier today that it has raised the price of PlayStation 5 in several non-U.S. markets, Microsoft has revealed that it will not follow suit.

Microsoft spokesperson told Windows Central That the company has no plans to increase the price of the Xbox Series X/S console.

“We are continually evaluating our business to offer our fans the best gaming options possible,” the spokesperson told the publication. “Our Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains at $299 (£250, €300) [and] xbox series x [remains] $499 (£450, €500).

Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed that it has increased the price of the PlayStation 5 console, both digital disc drive versions, in several markets around the world.

Sony says that the reason for the increase in prices is a result of the current economic environment of the world, which includes high inflation rate and more.

“The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are undoubtedly experiencing,” wrote SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan in a post. “We see high global inflation rates, as well as unfavorable currency trends, impacting consumers and putting pressure on many industries. Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has established Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Asia- Pacific (APAC), has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets in Latin America.
